Contours are carefully drawn in ink. I fill in with clay any small indentations that might be a problem. For larger indentations I use an inner mould. Better to be safe than sorry. |
The contours must be accurate otherwise I will not be able to remove the sculpture. The sculpture could also become distorted. The prepared dental plaster for the hard inner and outer mouldings follows these contours. |
When working with wet plaster, I have to be very quick but accurate. I Only tackle as many innermoulds. as I can manage in the time set. |
I cover all new inner moulds with tissue whilst the plaster is still malleable. This allows me to keep the outer mould from cementing to the inner mould. |
I fill in any small indentations with clay. |
I now continue to apply the outer mould, remembering to apply tissue to the outer edges of this mould as well. |
Removing latex mould from casting. The outer moulds already have been removed. |
Here I use 1 inner and 2 outer mouldings. Strong elastic bands made from old car tyres hold these outer moulds together. |
